Expanding Your Eating Horizon

With the start of 2017 already behind us, it is always a focus to find new and healthy places to eat out around you. Whether it be a new restaurant that has just opened down the street, or a place that has been open for years and you have yet to explore; this blog post will take you down both streets and allow you to explore both!

Check them out below, and let me know what you think!

LIBERTY PUBLIC MARKET

1. Parana: An Argentinian restaurant specializing in Empanadas, just about kills it in the flavor game. You can get 3 empanadas for under $8, and they are packed with a punch. My favorites so far have been the Beef, Rajas & Corn, and the Five Cheese. All sauces are served on the side, at the front of the counter, so take your pick on which you would prefer. The Chimichurri (regular and chipoltle) and the Spicy Roasted Tomatoes are a must try!

2. Cecilia's Taqueria: A Mexican restaurant focusing on killer tacos, and doing just that! Cecilia's has fresh food, wild-caught fish and grass-fed beef, and also has some local ingredients. I ordered the corn appetizer, a beef taco and a chicken taco, and was not disappointed.

3. Bottelcraft: Exactly how it sounds, a craft beer shop and tasting room. I first saw Bottlecraft in North Park, and was very happy to see a location in the Public Market. I am not a huge beer drinker, although my roommate is, so I have learned a lot about the craft in the last year. They have bar seating, with rotating beers on tap for you to enjoy, as well as a shop section with hundreds of selections. I stick with the ciders and my roommate prefers the ciders; here you can do both, no problem! The best part, ask the staff to pour your beer in a red cup, and you walk around the Public Market and keep exploring.

4. Wicked Maine Lobster: Making wicked sandwiches and all things lobster for the lobster lover. The Lobster roll and Clam Chowder are a must!

5. FishBone Kitchen: Liberty Public Markets main source for all things fish related. They have a raw bar, serving up ceviche, fish salads, uni and oysters. My personal favorite, their poke bowls!

CRACK SHACK

Located in downtown San Diego, on Kettner BLVD, this chicken and egg restaurant is located near Little Italy with an all inclusive outdoor patio and a fast pass to taste-ville. Crack Shack may possibly one of my new favorite restaurants - bring a jacket when it is chilly, as there is only outdoor seating, and keep in mind that it is first come first serve family style seating, so don't be afraid to scoot over and share you bench with others.

Things to order:

1. Chicken Lollipops

2. Deviled Eggs

3. Mini Biscuits (served with a miso butter, and arguably the best biscuits in town right now)

4. Senor Croque Sandwich

5. Fried Chicken Basket

6. Border Slaw (papaya, mango, coconut, Chile, pineapple)

7. Anti-Salad Power Bowl

**Don't forget all about all of the self-serve sauces at the front! Absolutely delicious.

Breakfast Republic

The Brunch game is a very important game right now. Breakfast Republic is taking these orders very seriously, and doing an excellent job. The first one I had ever seen was located in the North Park area, and now they have one located in Encinitas, and also one in Liberty Station (dangerously close). The one in Liberty Station is a bit small, but laid out nicely. They have a bar with a TV, indoor seating, and an outdoor patio.

What you should order depends on how hungover you are, and what you normally like for breakfast. I am not a sweet breakfast person, so the list below is based on my preference (but also keeping in mind what others have suggested and loved!)

START WITH

- Immune Boost

-Grapefruit Mimosa

-Jurassic Pork Bloody (Their bacon is actually amazing)

--- They even have coffee flights of some of their favorite coffees!

CONTINUE WITH

-San Diego Benedict

-Asiago Fennel Sausage Omelet

-Veggie Tostadas

--For that something sweet, try their pancake flight or French toast sampler
